Swedish Army Pilot

The early Swedish Army pilots wore the m/15 pilot badges in gold or silver depending on the badging colour of their main unit insignia. (see Early Badges) However with the integration of all military flying under the Air Force name in 1926 and with the introduction of the distinctive Air Force uniform in 1930, Army aviation badge use was officially suspended. However, the Aviation unit within the Swedish Army was organised as an integrated part of the Royal Swedish Army in the early 1960s, when tactical uses were introduced. Made of gilt metal and worn above the right-hand breast pocket. The design features two crossed swords surmounted by the King’s crown, with a pair of wings (V-shaped) protruding from the swords. Design : Sporrong & Co.

Since 1995, a woven cloth version is also allowed for wear on the battle uniform, to the top of the right-hand sleeve.

Pilots qualified to wear this badge graduated between 1960 and the year 2000. They are permitted to continue to wear this badge in continuing service. Pilots who graduated in 2000 onwards must wear the new united services helicopter pilot badge
